on last weeks post.

"We have counted on preaching, teaching, and knowledge or information to form faith in the hearer and have counted on faith to form the inner life and outward behavior of the Christian. But, for whatever reason, this strategy has not turned out well. The result is that we have multitudes of professing Christians who well may be ready to die but obviously are not ready to live, and can hardly get along with themselves, much less with others."
-Dallas Willard
from the chapter "Spiritual Formation in Christ"
taken from the book "The Great Omission"

P.S. !

"We have counted on nothing, it is the prescribed diet of Discipleship according to 2 Timothy 3:16-17 which reads;
"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work." And this so called strategy that is not turning out well has not been overlooked by the Author, its merely the natural procession of The Kingdom of Heaven/God. It will be as a little bit of leaven, or as 10 virgins but only 5 with oil, or a pearl of great price. And in no way are these straight forward teachings of Christ negating the necessity of our transformation by His Communion with us. Thats what knowledge and teaching and preaching is right? Equipping the saints to better KNOW their God? My question is what could be a healthy substitute in discipleship? (regarding the Great omission) Or maybe I just need to read the book to find out."
